England June 2019: Cold Morning Rain

tympani tin pan ten million soft drums

reverberations, a watery train  

door closing wood thunder car whooshing thrum

purr engines carve a diagonal vein

cough muffle shout muffle coo muffle coo

sweet trickle birdsong comes trickling through

 child cry and man shout and child cry again

through the soft cold song of cold morning rain

I wake to hear the ring dove coo  now weaving now  their love-me song

High ceiling colours green and ultra violet slowly move in thin cold air 

Float by 

While down along the Nene bank through the cold sun scissor hands 

White seagulls show the white blades

 how to move

Fly high

 

February 2019: Dark morning light

Dark morning light

rain and wet-felt-wool and 

slow coach to school with

it's windows so white

peppery dahlias for 

Our Lady's altar

in damp twist of newspaper 

held proud and tight

and wonderous promise

of glowing wax crayons

 old plasticine comics
and warm classrooms bright
